In this original BlacktipH film, I join Guy Harvey on an epic scientific adventure fishing for giant Black Marlin in Panama at Tropic Star Lodge. Black Marlin are one of the most challenging fish to catch! Tropic Star is in a very remote location in the Jungles of Panama. We had to take a plane, a bus ride, and finally, a boat ride to reach the lodge. Once we got to Tropic Star Lodge, we rested and prepared for the following day. The next day, Guy Harvey, Martin (Guy's friend), and our crew headed offshore to search for black marlin. After filling our tuna tubes, we started trolling for marlin. It didn't take long to get our first bite, and it was a big sailfish! Later in the day, Guy spotted a whale shark swimming on the surface. I got to jump in the water and swim with the massive 30ft animal! We finished the day off tagging and releasing several Dorado (mahi-mahi or dolphinfish). Later that day, Guy and I fed the fish at the dock and helped two anglers take photos of their massive yellowfin tuna! On Day Two, we went fishing with Ryan Logan and Jessica Harvey. On our third day, Guy Harvey and I encountered a massive marlin! This marlin eventually ate the bait, but a bottlenose dolphin managed to rip the bonito from the marlin's mouth. It was incredibly frustrating! Guy and I tagged and released two more Dorado before the day ended. Later that evening, Guy Harvey explains why he loves watching BlacktipH. On the fourth day, we caught massive blacktip sharks and a huge dolphin on Zane Grey Reef. These were by far the largest blacktip sharks I've ever seen! Our final day of fishing was EPIC! The black marlin fishing was on fire! We tagged every Black Marlin we caught with a $5,000 satellite research tag. This tag will track each fish for eight months and provide critical data to scientists. In total, we tagged and released five Black Marlin.
